About Us

Planned Kittenhood, Inc. is an Arizona 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization dedicating to helping cats and ending cat homelessness.

In July of 2020, Planned Kittenhood Founder and President Sarah Farnell rescued her first kitten from a garbage pile outside of her apartment in a rural suburb of Los Angeles County. She was a tiny, black ball of fur covered in paint who could barely walk or eat - and she couldn't have been more beautiful. It was like stumbling upon a lucky penny, and that was the perfect name for her: Penny.

Sarah soon discovered that this same garbage pile was a spawning ground for a seemingly endless stream of litters, and Penny was just the beginning. Month after month, sick and malnourished kittens would appear due to an out-of-control feral colony living on the property. Within a year, Sarah and her partner would have rescued approximately 25-30 kittens.

After moving to Phoenix, Arizona in 2021, Sarah saw that the feral cat epidemic mirrored Los Angeles'. Except in Arizona, the unbearable heat and lack of resources made the reality for homeless cats in Arizona much more dire. Sarah was running out of room in her apartment to house cats, and her family and friends were unable to take in any more of her emergency litters. Her efforts had reached capacity. That's where Planned Kittenhood, Inc. came in.

Planned Kittenhood, Inc.'s goal is to raise money to spay and neuter as many feral cats as possible, and help to create an expansive network of fosters for litters of kittens.

There is a myth that cats are able to live on their own outside of the home. Many people think that cats are self-sufficient hunters who can fend for themselves and require minimal maintenance. That couldn't further from the truth, and this myth has resulted in cats being some of the most abused and neglected animals in the U.S. The problem is compounded when owners decide not to spay or neuter their cats and then let them roam free outside. One of the most effective ways to help solve the problem is to spay/neuter cats and curtail the number of litters born each year.

Join Planned Kittenhood, Inc. in ending the mistreatment of cats forever.
